The chateau was built in 1893.
There is no exact historical documentation from then until now so this page relies on the information we have been able to gather from neighbours and others.
The chateau was built by a Cognac trader, M.Vert, as a wedding present for his daughter, using many specialised craftsmen from the time, with canvas coverings on the walls painted by Theodore Levigne a french artist from 1848-1912 and beautiful stained glass windows adjacent to the marble staircase by H.Curcier.
Once building was complete, the garden was over 700 metres long by 250 metres, with a farmhouse, livestock, orchards and a gate house.
It was subsequently sold to another Cognac House around 1920 - 1930's. They were, at the time, a fairly succesful cognac manufacturer called Ivaldi cognac. They owned the chateau until the 60's, and were hosts to some smartly dressed German guests for approximately 3 years during the 40's.
There was a drop in exports in the 40's and 50's of their cognac, which was sold mostly in the United States and Germany. This eventually led to the company closing and the sale of the chateau.
We know very little of what happened with the next owners, from then until when we bought the chateau December 1999, most of the time prior to our purchase it was not lived in and left abandonned.
Currently the chateau has since been listed as a 'monument historique' and we have begun the long process of restoring the chateau to its former glory.
